- Grant applications
- Nonfiction (personal, professional, educational)
- Textbooks
- Other nonfiction books
Types of editing services
- Developmental editing: The big-picture work: structure, argument, and organization. Your ideas are there but you're struggling to organize it or aren't sure how to present your work in the most compelling way.
- Line editing: Sentence and paragraph level: flow, clarity, tone, and rhythm. Your structure is sound but the prose feels clunky or just doesn't sound like you at your best. Helpful for when you've looked at a draft for too long and aren't sure how to make it work.
- Copyediting: Correctness and consistency: grammar, punctuation, word choice, style, and citation formatting. Your writing is in good shape, you just need it cleaned up and made consistent throughout to match a style guide or a journal's formatting requirements.
- Proofreading: The final surface pass: typos, spacing, and formatting errors. Your document is finished but you want one last check before you submit or publish.
- Fact-checking: Verifying the substance, not the prose: citations, quoted sources, figures, dates, and claims checked against what they actually say. A separate, dedicated pass, not the occasional flag an editor makes while editing. For when accuracy itself has to be defensible and you want to ensure your arguments are iron-clad.
More about what I do
- Editorial work at every level. A single proofreading pass for grammar, spelling, and mechanics, or copyediting, line editing, and full developmental work. Large projects and small. You tell me how deep to go, or ask me to recommend the level your draft actually needs.
- Research consulting. I help researchers build literature reviews and needs statements that establish both the scholarly gap and the real-world urgency a project addresses, and I support qualitative results and discussion sections where the writing has to carry the analysis.
- Fact-checking. A dedicated, comprehensive check of citations, figures, dates, and quoted sources for researchers and scholars who can't afford to be wrong.
Experience
- Subjects: I've edited dissertations in nutrition science and education; scholarly writing in nutrition, healthcare studies, public health, and the social sciences; grant applications for NIH-funded researchers; post-study research writing across health and social sciences.
- Methodology: I'm comfortable editing across the full range of qualitative approaches, including narrative inquiry, ethnography, phenomenology, grounded theory, case study, and thematic analysis. I also support aspects of quantitative work that has a human element or requires persuasive story-telling, such as grant applications, literature reviews, or results chapters.
- Style: APA, MLA, Turabian, AMA
- Theoretical Frameworks: If I haven't worked within it already, I'll learn the stylistic conventions, if applicable, for your theoretical framework so that your writing reads as fluent and stands out in your particular field and research approach.
Why work with me?
I don't just edit. I am an active writer and researcher. That matters most where the writing has to persuade. A grant application has to make a reviewer believe both that the gap is real and that the work is urgent. A results section has to let the data speak without overclaiming. A literature review has to build a case and tell a story, not just summarize.
I edit for whether the writing accomplishes what you need it to, and I ask the questions that sharpen your focus, so you come away knowing not just that it reads better, but why, and for whom.
I'm also fast without sacrificing quality, because I know what it feels like to be on a tight deadline. Many turn to AI for editing these days (and even for writing), but I'm free from potential hazards like hallucinated citations or exaggerated findings. I offer a quick turnaround that won't compromise the integrity of your work.
