All fees are fixed and quoted in writing before work begins. Nothing is billed by the hour. Quotes are valid for 30 days.

How do we start working together?

  1. Take the questionnaire. It takes about 10 minutes and provides me with a background on what you've written, what you teach, your goals, and more. It helps me know whether I might be the best fit for your editorial needs. There’s no charge to review this, and if I’m not sure I’m the best person to help you, I will tell you.
  2. Scoping pass. If your work is already a published dissertation or thesis, it doesn’t need a scoping pass. This part is only for unpublished work that hasn’t been reviewed by a committee. I read your work to get an idea of the type and depth of editorial support that your work needs. This allows me to give you an accurate quote. There’s no charge for this either.
  3. Project agreement. If you’re ready to move forward, I send you a short project agreement where we agree on scope of work and turnaround, plus the standards that protect your copyright and confidentiality. All work is quoted as a fixed rate; I do not bill by the hour.
  4. Review and editing. Once the agreement is complete, I get to work. I send frequent updates so you’re never left wondering where your project stands and whether I’ll meet the deadline. I’m readily available for questions throughout the time we work together.

How I work with your dissertation

I review and analyze your dissertation or thesis and help formulate a plan to develop one or two journal articles, with a complete plan to go from draft to done.

One article, fully mapped out

I read the full dissertation, identify the strongest single article in it, provide you with my reasoning, and return a complete outline that contains:

  • The argument
  • Section structure
  • Where existing content goes
  • What should be cut
  • What still needs to be added
  • Suggestions on how to schedule writing time based on your specific situation

Typical project fee and turnaround: $625 / 3-4 weeks

Two articles, fully mapped out

Same process, but with two outlines as described above, plus:

  • Which to write first and why
  • How to keep them from overlapping

Types of article editorial support

Whether you’ve written an article based on your dissertation or you have a completely different work-in-progress, there are several levels of editorial support that could be needed. I review your draft so that I can make a recommendation on what type of support is best. Some may need a first round of developmental editing followed by a separate proofread, while others may just need a line edit.

Developmental edit

A full read for structure, argument, method, and fit. I provide you with a written assessment and a reorganization plan: what should move, what should be cut, what is still needed, and where it should go. This is not a line edit for sound or flow, but is structural.

Line edit

Sentence-level editing with tracked changes in Word, focusing on clarity, brevity, and consistency. Where more is needed, I’ll note that. I can also read with your target journal’s requirements in mind to flag areas that may need more or less content, or additional changes. This edits the writing only on how it reads; it does not check for or fix formatting for text or references.

Proofread

A final read and proofread pass for a revised manuscript. Format checked to one target journal's style guidelines.

*Projects that exceed 7,000 words are quoted at a per-word rate that aligns with industry standards and is noted in the project agreement.

**For bibliographies, if citations need to be corrected or changed to a different style, this may be quoted as an additional charge depending on the number of references.

***Word counts include references, tables, and appendices.

I also work with grant narratives and needs statements, literature reviews, book chapters, textbook manuscripts, and dedicated fact-checking passes (citations, figures, and quoted sources checked against what they actually say).

Terms

All terms regarding payment, delivery dates, deliverables, revisions, confidentiality, and ownership will be clearly spelled out in the project agreement.

How quickly the work can be done

Most projects I take on are completed within 4 weeks, though during higher volume seasons, it can take 6-8 weeks. Typical turnaround times are listed above, but are all subject to the specific availability I have at the time of your project agreement. I will always be very clear on when I expect to have a project completed, and due dates in agreements are firm.

Rush. If you need a faster turnaround, typically in 2 weeks or less, I can sometimes accommodate this. Rates are typically 1.5-1.75x the typical rate. Rush availability depends on whether I still have scheduling space. Other project timeframes never get bumped to accommodate a rush assignment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you write the article for me?

No. I do not ever offer ghostwriting services. I can help you plan and outline, advise on structural development, edit, and prepare for journal or publisher submission.

Will my work definitely be accepted?

I cannot make that promise, since acceptance decisions come down to specific editors at journals and publishers, their current acquisitions, and other behind-the-scenes information that I have no knowledge of. I can, however, ensure that your manuscript is clean and polished according to the highest submission standards.

How does billing work? Are there refunds?

I bill through Stripe invoicing. Rates are fixed and agreed on in writing before work begins. I don’t bill hourly or tack on surprise fees. Most payment terms involve payment in part on contract signing, with the remainder due after the work is delivered to you. The specific terms will be outlined clearly in each project agreement.

Refunds are not given for work completed. If issues arise before work is complete, I try to accommodate situations on an individual basis, depending on whether the work was started and how far into it I got.

Can I talk to someone who has worked with you personally?

Yes, I can provide references on request.

What is your AI policy?

I do not use AI with your writing or to complete any phase of my editorial work.

Do you sign NDAs?

Confidentiality is guaranteed in all project agreements. If an institution requires a separate NDA, this can be addressed when relevant.
